I don’t agree that the pope does not know anything about Islam, I have full confidence in the popes knowledge on all religions and respect him for who he is, but the problem with allot of people is their interpretations of Islamic teachings. I don’t know where pope Benedict got his information on how Muhammad spread Islam through the power of his sword?????? WERE DID THAT COME FROM? When the prophet died certain unfaithful people to the prophet illegally came into power and promoted violence and wrongly preached Islam like we see today as the Taliban. The prophet and his family always went for peace the way gods wants it because in the Quran it says never commit war until they come against you and your Islam. All due respect to the pope but he was very wrong and should have apologized for his remarks. Muhammad started preaching of Islam without any men without any power. Soon when the people started listening and following Islam he had to grow Islamic protection because of the multiple threats he was receiving and was being tortured. EVERY SINGLE WAR THE PROPEHT WENT TROUGH was when the other tribes threatened Islam. It’s all recorded history. Abu Sufian came at Muhammad with a massive army and the prophet asked him instead of war to talk their differences and what Islam means but he did not agree and Muhammed forced to defend Islam. In the war of Khabar the Jewish threatened Muhammad’s life and Islam which called for a war in the defense of Islam. If he won the war it was his rightful duty to take over the tribe like any other winning army would and convert them to their religion , BUT the Jews did nor chose to convert and they still lived in peace. This is also all recorded history. Also Muhammad hardly had troubles with the Christians, they never had open war, they had their own differences but never war. When Medina and Mecca was fully covered of Islam Muhammad had no problem with Jews and Christians entering the city and even living in there. When the Christians came to ask Mohammed questions he welcomed then very nicely and even let them pray in the mosque. I can go for ever, I am a full born and raised practicing Muslim, and I majored in Islamic history and teachings which may not be much for anyone, but I have been personally taught and thought in university about Islam and I’ve never seen such a bad interpretation (the lines and statements Ben Dover made). First of all The Quran was direct context of what god wanted to be written in the Quran. From Islamic history God would recite the text and tell the angle Gabriel to come down and reveal this text to Mohammed, then Mohammed would recite the text to his apostles and they would record the text, and eventually the Quran was formed. I see Where you were trying go with the Quran being written and misunderstood but that just is all bullshit. People in every religion misunderstand their religion and books, like as the Taliban think you should kill all non Muslims and you will go to heaven. THAT IS INCORRECT. THERE IS NO WERE IN THE QURAN OR IN ANY OF MOHAMMEDS HADITH were he even indirectly promotes violence and your saying stupid **** like a father can kill his daughter if she does not do something he accepts on? WTF you basically explained to everyone what Taliban, Al Qaeda believe in. I honestly do not know where you got that information. Next time you want to make such harsh and disrespectful comments please do your research.

The Pope is right and knows Islam as few others do. I lived and worked in the Middle East for many years and lived in Tehran, Iran at the time of the revolution. Whilst there I stidued islam under Dr. Hanjani who lectured in Islam at Tehran University. I have studied Islam for over 30 years and have 5 copies of the Qu’ran. I set out a quote from Ayatollah Khomeini:
“Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled or incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of [other] countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world… But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world… Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them the [non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender [to the enemy]? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Qur’anic] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.”
With zealots like him and Muslims who are brainwashed from an early age and who allegiance to their religion and not to any western country, it is no wonder that we suffer from Islamic terrorism!

The Pope knows nothing of the teachings of Islam???

The Pope probably knows more about the teachings of Islam than most Muslims.

The “People of the Books” who know their books, and who know the history of the Quran and Muhammad can see exactly where the Quran comes from.

The Quran is an attempt to “recite” from memory the text of the Torah and the Gospel (Injil). The Quran shows a definite misunderstanding and misquotation of the teachings of the Jewish and Christian texts.

Muhammad knew that he was not going to get everything translated correctly, so he included the disclaimer that followers of the Quran should refer back to the Books (the Jewish and the Christian texts) for clarification.

Just one example of this the the Muslims misunderstanding of the Christian trilogy. Muslims believe that Christians think the Trilogy is God, The Virgin Mary, and Jesus. This is not correct. The Trilogy is God the Father, The Holy Spirit, and Christ the Son.

There are many instances in the Quran where the stories from the Books are improperly recited.

One can also see that as time passed, and as new verses were added to the Quran, the pronouncements from Muhammed become increasingly hateful and warlike.

If a religion must be spread through the edge of a sword, something is amiss.

One of the hallmark differences between Christians and Muslims is that the Christian says:
“I will die for what I believe.”

The Muslim says:
“You will die for what I believe.”

Christians are taught to love their enemy.
Muslims are taught to slaughter their enemy.

Muslims are taught that it is ok to kill anyone who does not “submit to” or agree with them.

Witness the “honor killings” where Sharia Law says that it is permissible for a father to kill his daughter if the daughter does something that the father does not find acceptable.

Didn’t Jesus stop the stoning of a woman who was accused of adultery? If Jesus found the capacity to forgive, why can’t we. This woman had broken one of the Commandments, and yet Jesus offered mercy and forgiveness.

Mr. pope was not more than a political identity at the time of the speech. He knows nothing about the teachings of Islam. where on earth he sees muslims are resoponisble for the killings. Millions of muslims are dead because of the west not millions of non-muslims are dead because of the Muslims. He is a hypocrite.
