Bleeding Edge Graphics from nVidia

Posted in Computers & Technology, Graphics by Elliott Back on June 26th, 2005.

Ars Technica pulls the wraps off the new NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX. With a $600 price tag, though, it had better have the muscle. The new card closely resembles the NV40 line of cores, with a few minor modifications:

  • 8 vertex pipelines, up from 6
  • 24 pixel pipelines, up from 12
  • The same 256 MB of DDR3 RAM
  • No shader replacement:
  • 430 Mhz clock

Direct X 9.0 and Shader V3 are supported, of course. Benchmarks make the card 50% faster than current offerings, and putting NVIDIA well ahead of my favorite little Canadian company, ATI. Feel free to buy, at only $599.
