This is an old article, but I feel the need to comment anyway. So far my experience with i-Tunes on Snow Leapord has been pretty bad. The way it imports new music is completely silly. Any mp3 player I've used before simply accesses a music file in its folder. The natural response of iTunes is to copy the entire folder (doubling the space the music takes on your hard drive - a completely silly option if you have 30 or so gigabytes of music), which takes forever on its own. Then, the program decides to mysteriously sync all the music, which takes even longer. I hope this is worth the wait. Importing the music from my external HD was much faster than the nonsense I'm going through now.

I have found a way to make iTunes recognize music without copying the folder, but the import operation was still quite slow, and the sync operation is still there.

I don't know if this is what iTunes does on Windows; I had actually rarely used the program before I started using OS-X. At least the import hasn't slowed my entire computer down; iTunes is the only program lagging while it performs the sync.

In preferences/Devices, deselect look for remote speakers... and Look for ipod touch...

Then, reselect them. Bingo!
