Bleeding Edge Graphics from nVidia
Ars Technica pulls the wraps off the new NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX. With a $600 price tag, though, it had better have the muscle. The new card closely resembles the NV40 line of cores, with a few minor modifications:
- 8 vertex pipelines, up from 6
- 24 pixel pipelines, up from 12
- The same 256 MB of DDR3 RAM
- No shader replacement:
- 430 Mhz clock
Direct X 9.0 and Shader V3 are supported, of course. Benchmarks make the card 50% faster than current offerings, and putting NVIDIA well ahead of my favorite little Canadian company, ATI. Feel free to buy, at only $599.
